The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has recently released a notification announcing a mop-up round for Karnataka NEET UG counselling 2024. The counselling round is being held for students seeking admission into MBBS and BDS seats at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore (KIMS). Candidates who have been allotted medical seats in either round 1 or 2 of Karnataka NEET UG counselling will also be able to participate in the mop-up round. However, it is to be noted by the medical aspirants that they will be able to fill in the choices till October 14.
The decision to conduct the KEA NEET mop-up round comes after the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 100 medical seats at KIMS Bangalore. As per the official notification, candidates who have been allotted medical seats in KEA either in the first round (choices 1 and 2) of UG NEET 2024 or in the second round and have joined the colleges, were not allowed to take part in the medical mop-up round.
“While the medical mop-up round is in process, the government, in its order no. MED 110 RGU 2024 dated 09-10-2024, has issued the seat matrix by adding 100 medical seats to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. (The category-wise seat matrix issued by the government is hosted on the KEA website.) Hence, provision is given to the candidates who have already reported to the medical colleges to participate only in the newly added 100 medical seats in KIMS, Bangalore,” read the official notification by KEA.
Moreover, candidates who joined the colleges after the first or second round seat allotment can fill in the options only for KIMS, Bangalore on October 14 before 11:59 PM. “In case the seat is allotted in KIMS, Bangalore, such candidates will lose their (give up) earlier medical seat and they cannot get back such seat again,” the notification further informed.
The notification also stated that those candidates who are already participating in the mop-up round may exercise their options for KIMS, Bangalore on October 14, before 11:59 PM, if they have paid the fees.
Additionally, candidates are advised to enter the choices even if they are not shown in the seat matrix, as any subsequent openings that exist will also be offered to candidates during this round. It is worth noting that applicants who have registered their options will have a chance of getting a seat.
