Kannur Clinches Gold Cup At Kerala School Kalolsavam 2024; Ends a 23 Year-Long Wait
At the 62nd Kerala State School Kalolsavam 2024, Kannur district won the golden trophy valued at 117.5 sovereigns after securing 952 points on the score table

The five-day Kerala School Kalolsavam concluded on January 8, with Kannur district securing the top spot in the grand competition. The 62nd Kerala State School Arts Festival commenced on January 4 in Kollam district, marked by a lively opening ceremony at Asramam Maidan. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially inaugurated the festival. Notably, this edition of the Kalolsavam witnessed a substantial increase in attendance compared to previous years.

As reported by Onmanorama, Kannur clinched the highly sought-after gold cup, valued at 117.5 sovereigns, ending a 23-year-long wait. This marks the district’s fourth victory in the festival. Kannur secured the top position with an impressive 952 points, closely followed by Kozhikode with 949 points. Palakkad claimed the third spot, accumulating a total of 938 points in the competition.

Meanwhile, the other districts that also grabbed a spot on the list include – Thrissur 925 points, Malappuram 913 points, Kollam 910 points, Ernakulam 899 points, Thiruvananthapuram 870 points, Alappuzha 852 points, Kasaragod 846 points, Kottayam 837 points, Wayanad 818 points, Pathanamthitta 774 points and Idukki 730 points.

Additionally, BSS Gurukulam Higher Secondary School in Alathur town, Palakkad, secured the top position among schools with an impressive 249 points. Following closely, Carmel Higher Secondary School in Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, claimed the second spot with 116 points. This year’s school cultural extravaganza featured the participation of 12,107 students competing in 239 events, according to Onmanorama. Notably, despite 1,001 students from Kozhikode taking part, BSS Gurukulam Higher Secondary School in Alathoor, Palakkad, stood out for presenting the highest number of competitors.

Reports state that the closing ceremony took place at 5 pm at Ashramam Ground, the main venue. The function was presided over by Minister KN Balagopal and inaugurated by Kerala Legislative Assembly Leader of the Opposition, VD Satheesan. Additionally, the chief guest was actor Mammootty. Reportedly, the Malayala Manorama gold medal for exceptional performance in the Malayalam language was also awarded at the function.

According to Education Minister V Sivankutty, there have been no complaints about the Kalolsavam so far. He also stated that Kollam can be proud of hosting the grand festival. He further lauded all the subcommittees, including transportation, food, lodging, and organisation, who worked seamlessly and put up a good show.
