Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) is a system of central schools for talented and gifted students who lack access to education due to their financial, social and rural disadvantages. It is known to offer excellent education, infrastructure and teaching facilities. It is present across the countries in many states and is affiliated with CBSE, where students are not required to pay tuition fees; but from Class 9th to 12, they have to deposit Rs 600 per month for the School Development Fund. The fee for children of government employees is Rs 1,500 per month. If a student belongs to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe and is Below Poverty Line category, or if the student is a girl, then the fee is waived off.
The admission process for enrolment in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya for the academic session 2024-25 has started. Entrance exams for classes 6,9 and 11 are scheduled to be held in January and February. For class 6, the entrance exam will be organised on January 20, 2024 and admit cards for the same have been issued. As for the other two classes, it will be held on February 10, 2024.
Here is the fee structure of the education institute-
If Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is not located in a remote or dangerous place, the students pay Rs 1,746 per month for nine months. Every year, they pay Rs 15, 714, which is deposited as mess fees. Apart from this, Rs 353 will be paid every month for other expenses.
If the school is located in a remote and dangerous place, the mess fee for a year is Rs 18,333. A fee of Rs 353 has to be paid every month for nine months.
Students for whom the school becomes almost inaccessible, then they have to pay mess fees of Rs 2,138 per month for nine months. Apart from this, Rs 407 is paid for other expenses.
Children studying in JNV located in temperate climes like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry and Lakshadweep have to pay Rs 2,640 per annum for uniforms. Similarly, JNV located in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, North Eastern Region and Himachal Pradesh will have to pay Rs 3,696 per annum.
75 percent of seats in each school will be reserved for students from rural areas. As per the rules, it needs to offer reservations to children belonging to SC and ST, in proportion to the population of the district. For OBCs, the reservation is 27 percent and for reservation of one-third of total seats for girls and 3 percent for disabled children.
