Sakirul Sekh, hailing from Ashrafpur village in Tehatta under West Bengal’s Nadia district, has become the talk of the town after securing the 17th position in the recently declared UGC NET December 2023 exams. The son of a daily wage labourer, Sakirul comes from a humble background and aspires to serve the country as a researcher while supporting his family. His family is elated with his success and hopes for a bright future for him.
As per his family and local people, Sakirul has been a talented student since childhood and has always shown a keen interest in his studies. His father, Sameer Mondal, works as a labourer in a local market and on farms. While Mondal himself did not pass secondary school, he ensured that his son’s education was not hindered by the family’s financial condition, always supporting Sakirul’s academic pursuits.
Today, Mondal considers himself a proud father, rejoicing in his son’s accomplishment in clearing the UGC NET December 2023 exam. He expressed his desire for Sakirul to work not only for the welfare of the family but also for the progress of the entire country.
Sakirul completed his Class 10th and Class 12th education from an institution in Tehatta and later gained admission to Krishnath College in Berhampore. There, he completed his B.Sc with 85% marks and enrolled in Kalyani University for M.Sc. Concurrently, he began preparing for the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) exam.
While Sakirul remained focused on his studies, his father ensured that financial constraints never impeded his son’s educational journey. “Though I was interested in studies, I never thought I would be able to reach this far,” Sakirul said, expressing his gratitude for the opportunities he received.
Since childhood, Sakirul had aimed to study and secure a government job to support his family. After completing higher secondary education, he embarked on preparing for the NET exam.
The UGC NET December 2023 exam results were declared on January 18. The National Testing Agency also released the e-certificates and JRF award letters. A total of 6,95,928 candidates participated in the exams, conducted between December 6 and December 14 last year across 292 cities in the country, covering 83 subjects.
