The higher secondary or Uchha Madhyamik results of the West Bengal board was released recently. Anwesha Dutta of Alipurduar has secured the 9th rank in the state. Celebrations are underway in the family as Anwesha has made the locality proud by securing the impressive rank. Anwesha lives in a joint family at Kholta, located on the border of Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. The area is fairly backward when it comes to social status of women and here, all families try to get their daughters married off as quickly as possible. Anwesha’s father has been an exception, allowing his daughter to fulfil her academic dreams.
Talking to Local18, Anwesha got emotional while speaking about her father, who she said dropped and picked her up from school, which was 4 kilometres away. Anwesha studied at Alipurduar Girls High School. Contrary to how most toppers prepare, Anwesha says that she never woke up at dawn to study. She said that she never got up before 10:30 AM and joked that she was also reprimanded by her family for the same.
Talking about her preparation style, she said she used to attend coaching classes in the afternoon and finished studying the material provided by her tuition teacher by evening. After evening, she used to prepare what she thought was more important. “I used to study what my mind used to tell me. I used to concentrate on the parts that I knew I was weak in and made mistakes”, she said. Anwesha also expressed her happiness at having made both her family and her locality proud through her achievement.
Having secured the 9th rank in the Arts stream, Anwesha is particularly interested in English literature. She wants to study English literature at the prestigious Jadavpur University in Kolkata and she has full support from her family to pursue her dreams.
