The UP Board examinations for classes 10th and 12th are currently underway across the state, with recent reports indicating a significant number of absentees during the March 7 exams. Nearly 3 lakh students failed to appear, a figure attributed to the board’s stringent measures against cheating.
On March 7, the Social Science examination for high school and a vocational category exam for intermediate students were conducted in the first shift. Out of the 29,59,023 registered candidates, approximately 1,77,521 were absent. In the second shift, high school students were scheduled for a sewing exam, while intermediate candidates were to sit for chemistry and sociology exams. Of the 20,18,283 candidates registered for this shift, approximately 1,00,122 did not attend. Thus, a total of 2,77,643 students were absent across both shifts.
According to board secretary Dibyakant Shukla, strict actions were taken against cheating, with one incident involving the apprehension of a girl during the examination.
The final examination, scheduled for March 9, is expected to see participation from more than 2 lakh students. On March 8, high school candidates are slated to take language subject exams like Gujarati, Urdu and Punjabi in the first shift across 3409 centres. Meanwhile, intermediate candidates will tackle vocational subject exams in 1091 centres. Registrations include 63,508 high school candidates and 32,475 intermediate candidates, totalling 95,983 students set to appear.
In the second shift, exams covering electrician, disaster management, solar system, repair and plumbing subjects will be conducted at a single centre. Intermediate subjects including Sanskrit and Agriculture will be examined across 5613 centers.
