RCB vs CSK Playoff Scenarios: How Royal Challengers Bengaluru Can Qualify
Here's a look at what Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings have to do to claim the fourth and final IPL 2024 playoff spot tonight.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Chennai Super Kings tonight in what is a virtual knockout match of IPL 2024. RCB must win this contest to qualify for the playoffs stage but they need to ensure a significant victory margin to do so.

On the other hand, CSK can advance even if they lose but not by a big margin at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB not only have to outsmart CSK, they also have to pray that weather doesn’t ruin their chances either since there’s forecast of rain during the match.

Three teams – Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad – have sealed three IPL 2024 playoff spots. And the fight is now between RCB and CSK to seal the fourth.

Here’s a look at all the scenarios that could decide the fourth qualifier:

How are RCB and CSK placed right now?

Currently, CSK are fourth on the points table with 14 points from 13 matches. They have a net run-rate of 0.528.

RCB are seventh in the standings with 12 points from 13 games and a net run-rate of 0.387.

How can RCB qualify?

Bat first: Should RCB decide to bat first and end up posting a total of 200 runs. They will then have to limit CSK to 182 for an 18-run win to get past the NRR of their opponent.

Chasing: If RCB are left chasing, say 200 runs, then they will have to hunt it down with at least 11 balls to spare to get their NRR ahead of CSK.

How can CSK qualify?

Win: The equation for the five-time champions is simple unlike to that of their latest opponents. A win will take their points tally to 16 and see them climb up to the third spot as well.

Lost: But what if CSK lose? In that case, they have to make sure that they don’t lose by more than 17 runs.

What if the match is washed out?

If rain plays spoilsport, then the team gets a point each. CSK will advance thanks to 15 points compared to that of RCB’s 13.
