'Murder at Guyana': Social Media Erupts as Afghanistan Rout New Zealand in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Afghanistan registered a historic triumph over New Zealand in the ongoing edition of the ICC T20 World Cup on Saturday as they romped to an 84-run win against the seasoned Kiwis.

Afghanistan managed to score 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs as opener Rahmanullah Gurbaaz led from the front with his 56-ball-80-run knock. The Afghan bowling unit completed a famous win as lead pacer Fazalhaq Faroouqi and star spinner Rashid Khan registered a four-wicket haul each to bundle out the Kiwis for just 76 runs.

Fans and pundits alike took to social media to express their reflections on the historic upset.

Former New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan posted an update on his social media account that read, “How do I report a murder in Guyana?”

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan said, “Well done Afghanistan on beating New Zealand. If their batting clicks regularly they can be very dangerous side in this World Cup cos their bowling is top quality in these conditions.”

Afghanistan top their Group C with two wins from as many outings in the tournament and will look to keep their winning momentum going when they take on Papua New Guinea on the 14th of the month before closing out their league stage assignments with a game against hosts West Indies on the 18th.
