Kieron Pollard Named Captain of MI Cape Town, Nicholas Pooran to Lead MI Emirates
The legendary West Indies player was named to lead the SA20 side in the upcoming campaign of the tournament in South Africa, while compatriot Pooran was announced as the skipper of the MI Emirates side in the ILT20.

Former West Indies cricketer Kieron Pollard was named as the captain of the SA20 side MI Cape Town for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

Compatriot Nicholas Pooran was announced as the captain of the MI Emirates side in the ILT20 league to be played in the United Arab Emirates.

The T20 franchise league side also confirmed the unavailability of Afghanistan icon Rashid Khan due to injury and wished the 25-year-old all-rounder a speedy recovery.

The South African side shared a post on their social media handle that read, “The Llord is here!  Kieron Pollard will be captain for MI Cape Town in SA20. Rashid Khan is unavailable currently, as he continues his recovery from injury. MI CT wish Rashid a quick recovery and look to have him back on the playing field soon.”

The move adds another chapter to the long and glorious unison between the West Indies maverick and the MI franchise following his groundbreaking stint with the side in the IPL during his heyday.

Pollard is one of the most celebrated players in the history of the MI banner as he represented the side from Maharashtra for an incredible 13 years, amassing 3412 runs in 189 games. He has also claimed 69 wickets for the joint-most successful franchise in the history of the cash-rich league and continues his association with the side even after his retirement from the Indian spectacle.

The inaugural edition of the SA20 saw the Sunrisers Eastern Cape lift the title, and the holders will get the second edition of the tournament underway on the 10th of January when they take on Joburg Super Kings at the Saint George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

Pollard’s MI Cape Town will begin their campaign in search of the title when they take on Durban’s Super Giants at the Kingsmead on the 11th of January.

The T20 challenge in South Africa will conclude with the final of the tournament slated to be played on the 10th of February.

The ILT20 is slated to start on the 19th of January and will go on till the 17th of February.
