'Good Morning, Jaani'; KKR’s Appreciation Post as Rahmanullah Gurbaz Leads T20 World Cup Batting Charts
Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed 80 off just 56 balls and now leads the T20 World Cup run-getters list with 156 runs from two games.

The Kolkata Knight Riders shared an appreciation post for Afghanistan wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz who is currently taking part in the T20 World Cup. Gurbaz played a crucial role in KKR’s triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Having played second fiddle to his teammate Phil Salt at the group stage, Gurbaz got his moment to shine in the playoffs. The Afghan international pulled up his socks to score overall 62 runs for KKR in the Qualifier 1 and the final. His good form has now followed him to the T20 World Cup where he currently leads the scoring charts with 156 runs. The Kolkata-based franchise took note of Gurbaz’s impact in the ICC event and shared a post featuring the top five scorers of the tournament. “Good morning, Jaani! Rahmanullah Gurbaz,” KKR wrote.

Kolkata Knight Riders fans have now congratulated Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the solid start to his T20 World Cup campaign. One of them simply wrote, “Congratulations Gurbaz.”

Another suggested that Rahmanullah Gurbaz must be eyeing a Player of the Tournament award in the ICC event. “He’s coming for the POTT,” the fan wrote.

One wrote, “Lord Gurbaz.”

Another person requested the franchise to retain the Afghan star for next year’s edition of the IPL as well. “Possible bring back next year,” read the comment.

Another highlighted how Afghanistan did the unthinkable by beating New Zealand. “History in Guyana. Afghanistan beats New Zealand by 84 runs in T20 World Cup for the first time in history,” she said.

Last month, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scripted history with the Kolkata Knight Riders as he won the IPL trophy in only his second season. Gurbaz’s omission in the group stage was mainly due to his teammate Phil Salt’s amazing form. Salt scored 435 runs at a staggering strike rate of 182.91 in the campaign. This made the Englishman the obvious wicketkeeper pick for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise.

As for the T20 World Cup 2024, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is once again proving why he is a valuable asset in the shorter format of the game. Gurbaz began his campaign with a 76-run knock against Uganda. He smashed four sixes and as many boundaries to help his side clinch a 125-run victory. He did not slow down against New Zealand either. Gurbaz played a fine knock of 56-ball 80 to guide the Asian side to a second straight victory against the Kiwis. He also won the Player of the Match award against the Kane Williamson-led side.
