Mumbai: The benchmark BSE Sensex recovered nearly 58 points in early trade on Monday, supported by fresh buying in select blue-chip stocks on positive investor sentiment triggered by the appointment of Urjit Patel as the next RBI Governor.
The 30-share index was trading higher by 57.53 points or 0.20 per cent at 28,134.53 with oil&gas, banking, realty, power, FMCG, PSU and capital goods, trading in the green with gains up to 0.77 per cent.
The gauge had lost 46.44 points in the previous session on Friday.
Also, the NSE Nifty rose by 17.95 points or 0.20 per cent to 8,684.85.
Brokers said select buying in select blue-chip stocks amid a mixed trend at other Asian markets helped the key indices to trade in positive terrain.
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei up 0.24 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.58 per cent in early trade today. Shanghai Composite index shed 0.42 per cent.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.24 per cent lower in Friday's trade.
