Jaitley's 'healthy measures' in Budget 2014: Cigarettes, gutka, aerated drinks get costlier
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley raised the excise duties on cigarettes and other tobacco products from 11 per cent and 72 per cent.

New Delhi: In what he called 'healthy measures', Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday increased excise duties on tobacco, gutka and aerated drinks. Making cigarettes expensive, Jaitley raised the excise duties on cigarettes and other tobacco products from 11 per cent and 72 per cent.

Jaitley has also hiked excise duty on gutka from 60 per cent to 70 per cent, making gutka costlier. The excise duty on pan masala has been hiked too, making pan masala costlier.

The excise duty on aerated drinks containing added sugar has also been hiked to 5 per cent, making drinks like cola, orange costlier.
