The highly anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Expressway is set to launch soon, offering a major boost to travel efficiency between Delhi and Dehradun. However, residents in certain areas will face delays before experiencing the full benefits of this new route.
While the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reports that the expressway, extending 31 km from Delhi to Khekra, is advancing rapidly, the work near Akshardham remains incomplete. If delays continue in this area, only the finished segments will be opened for use initially.
Spanning a total cost of Rs 12,000 crore, the six-lane expressway will connect Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun, passing through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Mandola, Baghpat, EPE Interchange in Khekra, Shamli, and Saharanpur.
The project is divided into four sections, with construction in the segments from Baghpat to Saharanpur and from Akshardham to EPE Junction being split into two phases each. Residents around Akshardham and Noida will face some initial inconvenience as the section from Akshardham to Geeta Colony remains unfinished.
They will encounter traffic congestion before reaching the expressway’s elevated road leading to the border. Those from other parts of Delhi can access the elevated road directly from the Geeta Colony bridge via the Ring Road.
Once the Expressway is fully operational, it is expected to provide significant relief to East Delhi, as it will redirect approximately 1.5 to 2 lakh vehicles daily away from local roads. This shift will reduce traffic congestion and improve commuting conditions for residents of East Delhi, as well as travellers heading to Dehradun, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Loni.
