The Elite i20 has a new cousin - the i20 Active. Contrary to what its name might suggest, the i20 Active is a crossover based on the Elite i20 and so its natural rivals are other puffed-up hatchbacks like the Etios Cross, the Cross Polo and the Fiat Avventura. But the i20 Active is more than just a beefed up hatchback with extra cladding. The Elite i20 based i20 Active is ready to hit the market on March 17.The i20 Active gets a significantly new front end over the Elite i20. The bumper gets large, round fog lamps with a cornering lamp function, a skid plate and an inverted hexagonal grille. The headlight unit also gets LED DRLs.The rear end mimics the theme seen on the fascia, with round reflector in the bumpers. A matte black cladding underscores the entire car to give it the rugged stance.Adding to the 'off-road' stance are satin-finished roof rails and a fuel-filler cap.The cabin carries forward the design from the Elite i20, but reflects the sportier side of the i20 Active with body-coloured inserts in the dashboard fascia and the upholstery. The i20 Active also gets sportier pedals. The i20 Acitve sits on a higher ground clearance, 190mm, which is 20mm higher than the Elite i20. To put things in perspective, the Avventura's ground clearance is 205mm, EcoSport is 200mm, EtiosCross is 174mm and CrossPolo is 165mm.
