Noida is gearing up for a major infrastructural addition that will ease commuter woes.
The upcoming skywalk connecting Noida Metro Rail Corporation’s (NMRC) Sector 51 metro station with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Sector 52 metro station is set to become a crucial interchange point between the Aqua and Blue Lines.
However, recent inspections by Noida CEO Lokesh M have revealed both progress and challenges in the construction process, according to the report by The Times of India.
A significant update for commuters eagerly awaiting the skywalk is the inclusion of escalators and travelators. These additions aim to enhance the overall commuting experience, making the interchange more accessible and convenient. The installation is expected to be completed by March of the upcoming year, providing a smoother transition between the Aqua and Blue Lines.
During a recent inspection of the Rs 10.5 crore overbridge, CEO Lokesh M expressed his dissatisfaction with the staggered progress of the construction work. He emphasised on the importance of timely completion, given the skywalk’s strategic role in connecting two vital metro lines. To address these concerns, the CEO took decisive action against laxity in work.
A clogged drain outside the Sector 51 metro station caught the attention of the CEO during the inspection. Expressing his concern, Lokesh M took stern measures against two water department officials, stopping their salaries for six and three months, respectively. Additionally, two managers received unfavourable feedback on their work records. The CEO stressed the urgency of resolving drainage issues promptly, given the sensitivity of the construction site.
The CEO’s inspection also uncovered unauthorised auto-rickshaw stands around the metro stations, causing traffic congestion. Lokesh M directed the deputy general manager of the civil works department to coordinate with the police department for the removal of the illegal auto stands. This move aims to streamline traffic flow and ensure the smooth operation of the interchange.
Furthermore, concerns were raised about the poor state of the sidewalk leading towards Sector 51, with peeling paint on the central verge. Authorities assured commuters that repairs would be carried out promptly to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of the footpath.
