Over a month after the comprehensive go-local strategy by Jeep brand was announced, Jeep India has today launched the locally assembled Wrangler in the country. Prices for the Made-in-India 2021 Jeep Wrangler starts at Rs 53.90 Lakh (ex-showroom). The new Wrangler is available in two variants – Wrangler Unlimited and off-road focus Wrangler Rubicon which is priced at Rs 57.90 Lakh (Ex-showroom). The production for the locally-assembled 2021 Jeep Wrangler commenced at its Ranjangaon joint venture manufacturing facility on February 23.
“Jeep has always represented the ultimate in capability and open-air freedom, and we are incredibly proud that our Made-in-India Wrangler protects that important legacy in the market," said Partha Datta, Managing Director – Jeep India. “The Jeep Wrangler is the second out of the four localised products we committed to launch in India. We wanted to make the world’s most recognised SUV even more accessible to our Indian customers and we are pleased to be able to meet their aspirations."
The pre-booking for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler also commenced on February 23 with the start of the local production in 26 dealerships across the country. Jeep India is also offering exclusive curated trail experience to its Wrangler buyers, much like the ones in the US.
The Wrangler gets a 2.0-litre engine producing 268 hp and 400 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed gearbox. There are choice of 5 colour options and 60 safety options. It will get four-wheel-drive with a low range option and will be as equipped as their USA made counterparts.
FCA earlier announced an expansion to the local product lineup in India, confirming that an investment of over $250 million has been committed towards the production of four new Jeep SUVs. The all-new local vehicle line-up includes the 2021 made-in-India Jeep Compass, a locally produced and global-first three-row Jeep SUV, as well as the iconic Jeep Wrangler and next generation Grand Cherokee flagship, which will both be locally assembled in FCA’s joint venture manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon.
The four new products will be on Indian roads by the end of 2022. The 2021 Jeep Compass is set to be unveiled in India on January 7, 2021 and production has already commenced. The luxury seven-seat mid-size Jeep, codenamed H6, will be launched in 2022.
