Honda Working On Electric Sports Car, To Come Up With Flagship Model Of 0 Series EV Range
According to reports, Honda is developing an all-electric sports car to serve as the brand's flagship product in the electric vehicle lineup.

Honda unveiled its new electric vehicle (EV) strategy at CES 2024 earlier this month.

The Japanese automaker displayed two electric concepts that provided insight into Honda’s evolving engineering philosophy as well as a glimpse into its new design language.

There is more going on behind the scenes, as a production battery-powered sports car is also being developed. The Japanese automaker is reportedly developing an all-electric sports car that will serve as the brand’s flagship product in the electric vehicle lineup.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe revealed to British automotive publication Autocar UK that the automaker intends to enter the sports car segment. He hinted that Honda is developing an electric sports car to serve as the brand’s electric vehicle flagship.

This has fueled speculation that the Honda NSX will return as an all-electric halo vehicle. Mibe reportedly revealed that work on a performance EV, which will be a key component of the 0 Series range of electric vehicles, is already underway at the Honda R&D Centre and will go on sale in 2026.

The CEO of Honda has not revealed many details about the company’s upcoming electric sports car. However, he stated that the development of the upcoming EV is moving forward. He also stated that, despite being an electric vehicle, it will provide the joy of driving with a strong emphasis on driver engagement.

The upcoming sports car will have a low-slung, cab-forward profile if the new generation design philosophy for the Honda 0 Series electric cars is to be implemented, as per reports. Furthermore, distraction-reduction will be the foremost priority in the cockpit’s minimalist design.

Compared to Honda’s current electric vehicles, the battery pack onboard the EV will be much slimmer. Additionally, e-axle drivetrains, which combine motors, inverters, and transmissions into a single compact unit to maximise interior space, will facilitate propulsion.

Without specifically mentioning rivals, Honda is also performing a comprehensive analysis of the present electric sports car market.

In 2022, Honda teased two electric sports cars, one of which appeared to be a potential NSX replacement. The Acura Electric Vision Design concept, introduced last year, provided another glimpse of a potential electric NSX.
