Haryana Likely To Build New ISBT Near Dwarka Expressway In Sector-36A
Haryana plans a modern interstate bus terminal near Dwarka Expressway, Gurugram, replacing a deteriorating facility in Sector 12.

The Haryana transport department is gearing up for a significant transformation in the state’s transport infrastructure with plans to construct a state-of-the-art interstate bus terminal near the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram’s Sector 36A, officials told Hindustan Times.

This ambitious project aims to replace the existing terminal in Sector 12, which has faced challenges due to its deteriorating condition. The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has been directed by the state government to allocate 15 acres of land free of cost for the construction of the new terminal.

Gurugram’s current interstate bus terminal, situated on a 13-acre plot, handles a substantial daily passenger load of around 10,000 individuals, according to estimates by Haryana roadways officials.

However, the terminal’s main building has been non-functional for several years due to its dilapidated condition. Instead, operations are carried out in a makeshift shed that can accommodate only 100-150 passengers, with drivers and conductors working from temporary structures, the HT report added.

The urgent need for an upgraded facility has prompted the state to pursue the development of a new terminal.

The proposed interstate bus terminal is designed to be a modern transportation hub with multi-storey centrally air-conditioned buildings.

The facility will include offices, a spacious waiting area for 500-1,000 passengers, a shopping mall, and a food court. This comprehensive plan aims to enhance the overall experience for both travellers and staff, providing a comfortable and efficient environment.

While the vision for the new terminal is promising, construction is yet to commence as HSIIDC has not identified the specific 15 acres of land for transfer to the transport department.

The intended plot is part of a 145-acre area in Sector 36A earmarked for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Officials state that the final layout and demarcation for these projects have not been determined, causing a delay in the land transfer process, HT added further.

Pardeep Kumar, Haryana Roadways general manager (Gurugram), has assured that efforts are underway to expedite the transfer process. A letter has been sent to HSIIDC headquarters seeking clarification on land demarcation and layout. Once the land is transferred, the department will proceed with the architectural planning and construction of the new terminal.

The relocation of the interstate bus terminal is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Old Gurugram significantly.

The existing terminal has been a source of traffic snarls on roads such as Sadar Bazaar, New Railway Road, Bus Stand Road, MG Road, and Old Gurugram-Delhi Road.

The new terminal’s strategic location near Dwarka Expressway is poised to reduce congestion, as buses will directly enter the expressway or Central Peripheral Road without traversing city roads.
