This 'Taare Zameen Par' Edit Depicting Ishaan Awasthi's Struggles is Making Internet Cry Like a Baby
Viral video edit, showing how Ishaan Awasthi struggled in 'Taare Zameen Par', leaves internet sobbing.

Rare are the movies that etch themselves into our favourites or the ‘always watchable’ list, and for Bollywood enthusiasts, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ proudly claims its spot. A rollercoaster of emotions with a compelling message, the film arrived at a time when many of us were oblivious to the intense struggles kids face, not at the hands of outsiders, but within their own families.

The term ‘dyslexia’ was a novelty, and ever since, it has invoked the image of Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary), the kid with bunny teeth. He, imperfect in the eyes of his parents, taught us that ‘perfection’ is a diverse concept, extending far beyond academics—a lesson often overlooked by parents while assessing their child’s ‘intelligence.’ And who can forget the impact of having a Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) in our lives, someone who truly understood when no one else did!

While we could indulge in endless discussions about this cinematic gem from 2007, a recent video edit surfaced, shedding light on Ishaan’s struggles with his parents. This sparked a renewed conversation among Desis on the internet, as they couldn’t resist sharing how the movie resonated with them then and continues to leave an impact today.

It all kicked off when an ‘X’ user shared the video edit with the caption, “Watching this as an adult makes me want to throw up he was just a child :(” Soon, the comments poured in.

One user shared a deeply personal connection, revealing, “No other movie ever had the kind of impact on me that this movie had. as a not so bright kid with bunny teeth, often left behind and would draw on exam sheets – ishaan just GOT me. life slowly got kinder, then a huge downfall, then again kinder.. ishaan is my hero even today.”

Another user, in a more serious tone, shared, “No movie has ever made an impact on me as much as TZP. The fact that I shared the name, age, and the bunny teeth with the kid didn’t help. People called me Ishaan Awasthi as a joke and that used to scare tf out of me. 17 years and I still don’t have the courage to watch it again.”

Reflecting on the movie’s ahead-of-its-time brilliance, a third user wrote, “Omg I remember the first time I watched taare zameen par I cried for like an hour afterwards because it was such an emotional experience & was so frustrated by the adults around me saying there was a lesson for both ishaan and the parents like no ur not getting the movie at all!”

The fourth user emotionally noted, “Them giving the dad a redemption arc like the damage on ishaan hadn’t already been done… also that line in “ma” that talks about his mom staying quiet while his dad scolded him… this movie breaks me everytime.”

Praises were also showered on Darsheel Safary, who impeccably portrayed the role of Ishaan Awasthi as a child actor. “I still wonder how can that kid justify that role. He ate that literally,” commented one user. Another chimed in, “The way darsheel safary ate that role up so effortlessly. idk if any other child actor could give the same justification to the character of ishaan awasthi tbh.”

Truly, it’s the brilliance of artists that makes art worth celebrating, and for those behind this movie, take a bow!
