High Amount Of Synthetic Sweetener Found in Cake That Killed 10-year-old Patiala Girl: Report
The family of the girl alleged that the chocolate cake, ordered from a bakery called 'Cake Kanha', contained poisonous substances

A high level of artificial synthetic sweetener was found in the cake which was linked to the tragic death of a 10-year-old girl in Punjab’s Patiala during her birthday celebration, officials probing the matter said on Monday.

Last month, Manvi, 10 and her entire family, including her younger sister, took ill after consuming a chocolate cake they ordered online from a bakery in Patiala on her birthday.

Soon after the consumption of the cake, the girls began vomiting and Manvi complained about dryness in their mouth and feeling parched after which she was rushed to the hospital.

The family alleged that the chocolate cake, ordered from a bakery called ‘Cake Kanha’, contained poisonous substances.

After the news broke, a sample of the cake was collected for testing and the report shows a high amount of saccharine, a sweet-tasting synthetic compound, was used to cook it, District Health Officer, DHO Dr Vijay Jindal told NDTV.

According to the expert, while small amounts of saccharine are usually used in food and concentrated drinks if used in high levels, it can cause your blood glucose levels to rise rapidly.

Officials said that action will be taken against the bakery soon and a fine may be imposed.

An FIR has already been filed against the bakery owner.

Earlier, the police said that the postmortem of the body had been done and a sample from the cake was sent for testing.
