Israel’s Strategic Attack Exposes Iranian-Backed Hezbollah's Vulnerabilities: CNN-News18 Exclusive
Mossad's recent attack on Hezbollah has exposed vulnerabilities, causing significant casualties and disrupting communication

The deadly attack against Hezbollah on Tuesday, which targeted hundreds of pagers across Lebanon, exposed the Iranian-backed group’s vulnerabilities, according to an assessment of Indian agencies.

The explosions, which involved communication devices used by the Iran-backed group, are believed to have been planned by Israeli spy agency Mossad. As per inputs from Indian agencies accessed by CNN-News18, the attack was described as a “multifaceted success” in breaching Lebanon’s security. It not only caused significant casualties but also disrupted Hezbollah’s operational capabilities. The pager explosions are seen as a major setback for the group, which has relied on these devices to communicate securely while avoiding Israeli surveillance.

“Yesterday’s pager attack was a multifaceted success in breaching Lebanon’s security on multiple fronts. The Mossad attack involved physical, supply chain, personnel, security governance, counterintelligence, and cybersecurity aspects related to multiple devices. This attack had significant deterrence value against both Hezbollah and other members of the Axis of Resistance, as well as disrupting their operational capacity,” according to the Indian agencies.

Reports suggest that the pagers were modified with explosives before being delivered to Hezbollah. This security breach has raised concerns about internal trust within the group, as they now face the challenge of relying on human messengers amid fears of infiltration. The attack has weakened Hezbollah, creating uncertainty about its future operations.

“This attack will allow Hezbollah’s adversaries to map out their other capabilities—personnel, hospitals, family members of Hezbollah, identification of previously unknown members, and the gathering of relevant data for future operations. It will also create an element of uncertainty regarding future types of attacks, their scale, and scope while undermining Hezbollah’s image of invincibility in the region,” according to the agencies.

Hezbollah’s leadership has vowed retaliation against Israel for this attack, which they have labelled the “biggest security breach” they have experienced in nearly a year of conflict. The implication of the attack extends beyond immediate casualties. This escalation is part of a broader context of escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, following the outbreak of war in Gaza last year.
