Former US president Donald Trump called US President Joe Biden ‘dumb’ and blamed him for the October 7 attacks, claiming that the attacks would not have happened if he were the president and that Hamas did not respect Biden. He also claimed that Biden’s policies strengthened Iran who then enabled its proxies to plan such an attack.
“He can’t put two sentences together. He can’t talk. He’s a very dumb person. He’s a dumb person. His foreign policy throughout 50 years has been horrible,” Trump was quoted as saying by Israel Hayom, a Hebrew-language daily newspaper.
“It was an attack that I blame on Biden because they have no respect for him. They would have never done that attack if I were there. Biden is not a friend of Israel. Because if Biden was a friend of Israel, October 7 would have never happened,” Trump said, repeating a claim he has made several times since the October 7 attacks.
Trump also warned Israel that it risked losing international support but defended Israel’s war on Hamas after the terror group killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in an unprecedented attack.
“I would act very much the same way as you did. You would have to be crazy not to. Only a fool would not do that. That was a horrible attack,” the former president said.
He, however, said ‘moving images’ coming out of Gaza meant Israel would lose global support. “I wanted to call [Israel] and say don’t do it. These photos and shots. I mean, moving shots of bombs being dropped into buildings in Gaza. And I said, ‘Oh, that’s a terrible portrait. It’s a very bad picture for the world. The world is seeing this,’” Trump said.
“I think Israel wanted to show that it’s tough, but sometimes you shouldn’t be doing that. Israel has to get better with the promotional and with the public relations, because right now they’re in ruin,” the former president further added.
According to reports by Spectrum News and the Associated Press, the Israel Hayom is widely seen as a mouthpiece for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is owned by the Adelsons. The family made its fortune through casinos and donated generously to Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns.
Trump earlier met the family matriarch, Miriam Adelson, in February to discuss his campaign.
Trump lashed out at the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for ‘letting him down’ and said Netanyahu “was not prepared” for the deadly incursion from Gaza.
He also lashed out at Jews who voted for Democrats. “I think if you have to convince them, you got a problem because that should be automatic. I’m not Jewish. And yet Israel for me is very important. How could a Jewish person vote for Kamala Harris? She supports the enemy!” Trump said.
