A student from Maharashtra was detained by Danish authorities in Copenhagen who blamed her for overstaying in the country.
Srushti Hode, who is a student in the UK, was in the Danish capital to attend an event hosted by the overseas members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
She was detained at the Copenhagen airport by Danish immigration authorities who claimed she was overstaying. Hode says she was detained as she was about to fly out of the nation but her inward flight had gotten delayed.
She also said that she was given a two-day visa.
Hode was later released after functionaries from the overseas wing of the BJP intervened. Sources speaking to CNN-News18 said Hode was released after the top leadership intervened, with Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, the in-charge of the BJP’s department of foreign affairs, taking the lead.
Hode claimed that no food was given to her during her detention.
She also said that Denmark slapped a two-year entry ban to the European Union (EU) on her and termed the decision ‘unjustified’.
She was allowed to return to the UK following intervention from the functionaries of the BJP.
