In a rather sad and insensitive story, a woman talked about how her sick mother’s boss has been pushing her to return to work. Sharing on Reddit, the college student known as @disneydoll96 revealed that her 50-year-old mother has been fighting stage 4 cancer for the past 18 months. Despite her workplace being aware of her condition, they keep asking her to come back to the office.
She shared a screenshot of an email from her boss that read, “Could you please get a letter from your oncologist to confirm if you are fit to return to work,” before outlining specific tasks she cannot perform and inquiring about her treatment plan. But that wasn’t all. They also requested her presence at a welfare meeting the following day, oblivious to her illness and unable to accommodate short notice. According to the OP, the email arrived at 5:30 p.m., lacking any consideration for her availability, but instead issuing a direct order to attend.

Further sharing, the OP, based in Ireland, mentioned that her mother is a shop supervisor and hopes to return to work someday, as they currently lack stable financial support. Having lost her father, she is awaiting completion of her degree before seeking employment.

The post quickly gained attention, with comments flooding in. One user suggested, “She should secretly record the meetings and make the company look like the shit that it is,” suggested one user. Another added, “I’m certainly not going to say that I wish her boss got cancer as well. But I’m sure gonna think it really hard.” A third commenter remarked, “Some people are so f**king disconnected it’s disgusting. I hope your mom has the capacity to dismiss the awful boss. It’s not fair and it sucks. Some people are just evil.”
Many others expressed sympathy for her mother and hoped she could cope with such inhumane treatment at work.

Truly, in a world often driven by materialism, the question remains: When faced with adversity, do we respond with empathy and support, or do we perpetuate the challenges others face?
