A woman reportedly misled a popular Delhi-based social media influencer by posing as an admirer and robbed him during a photoshoot. The incident took place on September 18, when the influencer met the woman at a Chhatarpur office, where she had asked him to wear his jewellery for the pictures. While they were posing for pictures, the influencer received a phone call, the woman seized the moment and fled with 100 grams of gold jewellery worth lakhs. The unexpected incident left the influencer shocked, who immediately informed the police. Thanks to a quick investigation, authorities tracked down the woman and her husband in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. They were arrested and the stolen jewellery was recovered from their home in Jhajjar, Haryana.
According to The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan revealed that the woman was identified after the theft was captured on CCTV footage. The video helped police confirm the woman’s identity and found out that she was in Manali. Interestingly, during the investigation, the 21-year-old woman insisted that stealing jewellery from the influencer was not part of their plan.
The police said, “She saw his videos in which he was donating money to people and showing off his lifestyle. She claimed that she wanted to meet him. She and her husband are jobless. Once she saw the chain and the jewellery, she waited and ran away with them after sensing an opportunity. The accused revealed that she had hidden the jewellery in her house in Jhajjar, Haryana. To avoid the police, she ran away to Manali after securing them. She planned to sell them.”
The woman stole several items, including a 40 gram gold chain, a 60 gram gold kada and an artificial chain, the report added. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police explained that the investigators thoroughly questioned the influencer to gather more information about the incident. They looked into the social media account connected to the case and carefully reviewed the CCTV footage from the location where the woman had met the influencer. The police team reviewed every detail of the case and pinpointed her location in Manali. A team was quickly sent to the region, where they successfully arrested the woman. During questioning, the accused revealed that she wanted to live a lavish lifestyle.
