Woman Slammed For Destroying Onam Rangoli At Bengaluru Society, Internet Says 'Cheap Mentality'
A video shows a woman engaging in a verbal argument at a housing society in Bengaluru over Pookalam made by children.

A Bengaluru society has become a centre of controversy after a woman destroyed a Pookalam, a traditional floral arrangement made by children to celebrate Onam. A video that is doing rounds on social media platforms, shows a woman engaged in an argument and eventually stepping on Pookalam to destroy it. The incident has left both residents and internet users shocked, sparking outrage over the disrespect shown by the woman towards a cultural practice.

The altercation reportedly took place at the Monarch Serenity Apartment Complex in east Bengaluru’s Hegde Nagar. The woman in the video was involved in a dispute with other residents regarding the placement of the Pookalam in the common lobby area. She objected to the floral design display in a shared space rather than individual homes.

As she attempted to justify her actions, she referenced unclear statements about the Constitution of India and the Holy Bible. “Let me see what the Constitution of India says. Even the Bible, as per the Bible, this is not (space) is not for putting any Pookolam here,” Nair is heard saying in the viral footage.

Take a look at the video here:

Though the authenticity of the footage hasn’t been confirmed, it has triggered a flood of reactions on social media. Many users have criticised her action calling it disrespectful and mean.

One user voiced their frustration, saying, “Where is our education, at this age she will not be happy and not let others be happy, soft beautiful flowers and good smell all around, how can one do this, ooh god save this mother.”

Another called the woman’s act “wicked” and added, “Whatever is the reason. Respect religion and traditions. Which are spread happiness and joy.”

Another user called out for action against her behaviour, saying, “This sort of people should be kicked out of society, how did she ever think of destroying others happiness which was not harming her in any way. Not acceptable. File a case against her.”

“India is all about responsibility and respect for each other. But she learnt nothing except arrogance,” said one individual while another added, “This made me so sad. What has happened to people?”

Onam, a 10-day festival celebrating the annual harvest in Kerala, began on September 5 this year and concluded on September 15.
