Residents of the Jaruwa village, Madhya Pradesh are facing the problem of the water crisis. Due to this reason, as per the Local 18 Madhya Pradesh, unmarried men have to face the brunt of not getting wedding proposals. Women, however, don’t face this problem as they have to stay in their in-laws’ house post the wedding. 1200 residents live in this area and have to deal with the shortage of water from the onset of the summer. The villagers need to cover a massive distance of 1 kilometer to fetch water from a pond located in the drains. That water has to be used as drinking water for both villagers and the cattle.

A villager named Shivprasad Adivasi revealed more about this problem and said that his daughter is about to get married. Due to this reason, Shivprasad said that he has purchased a water tanker on a rental basis, as water has to be used in the cleaning of dishes. Shivprasad further added that he has to come to the pond to transfer the water to the tank.

Another villager named Halle Yadav said that the water shortage problem has worsened in the past 15-18 years. He added that there are grim prospects for the recovery of the situation. According to him, the villagers have to spend a significant portion of their day only collecting water and then carrying it back to their homes. The pregnant women are also required to assist their families and travel to the ponds to collect the water.

The question arises as to why no significant measures have been taken to curtail the issue of water shortage in the Jaruwa village. District CEO Manish Bagri said that Jaruwa village is a tribal-dominated area. The borewells, hand pumps, or any other scheme for drawing out the water from the underground fail repeatedly due to the presence of the rocky soil. Bagri said that discussions have been held with the officials working at the Jal Nigam regarding the problems faced by the villagers in the summer season. They are leaving no stone unturned to resolve this problem as soon as possible.
