'What About Safety?': Passenger With 1AC Train Ticket Shares How Ticketless Travellers Make Excuses
Reddit user complains about ticketless passengers flooding 1AC coach on a train from Hubli to Hyderabad.

Why spend more on a fancy train ticket when people without tickets flood the coaches like it’s a free-for-all? This is the complaint echoing across social media, with many frustrated about the discomfort caused by these passengers who haven’t paid their fare on Indian trains. In the middle of all this commotion, one passenger shared their frustration on Reddit, talking about the excuses these fare dodgers come up with.

“We’re currently traveling from Hubli to Hyderabad and a bunch of people hopped on to the 1st AC coach sitting right outside our coupe,” shared the user, @kriticalmission, in the ‘Indian Railways’ subreddit. Despite the coach attendant’s attempts to sort things out, the excuses kept flowing: ‘Baccha hai’, ‘next station mein utar jaayenge’, ‘baahar hi baithenge’ –  these were their excuses,” they groaned, frustrated by how easily these ticketless folks get away with it.

“Despite raising the issue they got away with it. Why do we even bother paying extra for the sake of safety if this is what we have to deal with?” the OP concluded.

The post blew up, sparking a flurry of reactions. One user pointed out, “It is going to sound like a controversial stance, but I think the thing to get angriest about is the horrifying lack of infrastructure for the majority of the travellers in the Indian Railway System. If they add more General or Sleeper coaches instead of overbearing on projects like Vande Bharat, which barely 5% of the commuters can afford.”

Another quipped, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we all just stopped paying for our tickets and just went and sat anywhere we wanted in the train? They can’t even remove these people, so it’s not like they’ll act against us if we do it en masse.” The third joined, “Best would be to buy 2-3 tickets but bring along 10-15 people. at least that way you are cramped with known people :D”
