We may have often come across the elderly in our house saying that when they were young, they used to rarely fall sick and their immunity was much stronger. They claim that one of the reasons was less pollution. Apart from this, there was a drastic difference in eating habits. While we may be more inclined towards junk and oily food, they eat mostly home-cooked food. The vegetables grown during their times had no harsh chemicals; whereas now, there are more chemicals in our fruits and veggies than in nutrition. One more thing that may affect our health is how we store our foods, especially ghee. A viral video has grabbed the attention of the internet on how our grandparents used to store ghee, which was beneficial for their health.

This generation stores almost everything in colourful plastic or glass containers. We eat on steel or melamine plates. Our grandparents were much more aware and used to use copper or brass metals for certain food storage and iron vessels for other foods as consuming food from them prevented certain deficiencies. Now, a viral video shows how in Rajasthani culture, ghee was stored in round iron pots. The blacksmith used to prepare this pot by beating it. Storing ghee in such pots ensured the intake of iron as well and helped prevent iron deficiency.

The caption read, “Guzre zamane ke bartan ka khufiya raaz (The secret of old utensils).” The man in the video explained that the round iron pot had a wooden cork with it. He further shared that while moving from one place to another, the ghee was hung on the camel’s back and for that, there is a provision of loop as well. He also showed a different kind of vessel for storing ghee inside the house. It was again an iron vessel with a latch system. He further showed a bucket which was made in 1942 in Lahore. The man said that the bucket was used by the army in World War II.

The comment section was mighty impressive. An user wrote, “Bohot khoob bhai (Excellent, brother).” Another wrote, “Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj Ne Sikho ko loha ka bartan diya hi isiliye tha kyoki loha har bimari ka ilaj hai (Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj gave iron vessels to Sikhs because iron is the cure to almost all diseases).”

What's your reaction?
