Messi, a Border Collie, has already made a name for himself by starring in the Oscar winning film Anatomy of a Fall and even joined the stars at the awards ceremony. Messi seems to enjoy his new lifestyle, as he confidently posed on the recent red carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. This made him the first dog in history to walk the carpet at the French Riviera. In a memorable moment, he caught everyone’s attention by standing on two legs and waving towards the crowd with his paws. He even carried a selfie stick in his teeth to record videos. Messi was joined by his trainer, Laura Martin Contini. Besides winning an Oscar, Anatomy of a Fall premiered at Cannes last year, where it won the top honour, the Palme d’Or.
During the 2023 Cannes, Messi also won the Palm Dog, a prize awarded by journalists for the festival’s best dog. Lines of tuxedo-clad photographers took Messi’s photographers, as he walked past and climbed the stairs of Palais des Festivals. He sat, held his front paws up and waved towards the crowd like a movie star. For nearly 20 minutes, Messi captured everyone’s attention as he moved around, before the arrival of stars like Meryl Streep, jury president Greta Gerwig, Jane Fonda, Juliette Binoche and the cast of the opening film The Second Act.

The Cannes Film Festival began on May 14, with The Second Act, starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Lindon, as the opening film. This year, the Japanese creators behind Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, Studio Ghibli, will receive an honorary Palme d’Or. This will be the first time the award will go to a studio instead of an individual. Additionally, the festival, which will end on May 25, will also honour George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, with another special award.
Aishwarya Rai, is also set to walk the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival, along with Sobhita Dhulipala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Kiara Advani Viraj Ghelani, Sharan Hegde, Ankush Bahuguna, Niharika Nm and Vishnu Kaushal.
