Cricket fans have been in a frenzy since yesterday, as Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma revealed the arrival of their baby boy, Akaay, on February 15. This announcement finally put an end to the swirling suspicions and rumours that had persisted for months. While Kohli was absent from the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series due to ‘personal’ reasons, speculations arose once again about him being with his wife for the birth of their second child. At that moment, Kohli’s former RCB teammate and close friend, AB de Villiers, spilled the beans about the couple expecting their second baby.

This revelation catapulted him into the world of memes, as people began teasing him for sharing news that everyone wanted to hear, except for Kohli and Anushka themselves. Realising his slip-up, AB later extended a heartfelt apology to the family via his YouTube channel.

It was on February 3 that AB disclosed Virat Kohli’s absence from the initial two Test matches against England, attributing it to him and his wife, Anushka Sharma, anticipating their second child. He staunchly defended Kohli’s decision, underscoring, “Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision.”

However, just a day after AB de Villiers made a startling U-turn on his prior revelation, the former South Africa captain issued a fresh apology during a live YouTube broadcast, as the Indian batsman remained absent for the last three games against Ben Stokes’ brigade. “My friend Virat Kohli is still not available. I cry out to everybody to give him the privacy that he deserves. Family comes first. No one knows what exactly is going on. I am asking all of us to respect that. I did [a] bit of a blunder in my previous show and I apologise to the Kohli family for that,” he said.
