A household of eight individuals, confronted with the threat of homelessness, has shared their story of transforming two double-decker buses into their family residence. Antoni and Emma Taylor, aged 30, residing in Helston, Cornwall, UK have managed to save over £10,000 (Rs 10.56 lakh) annually on rent by embracing this innovative living arrangement on wheels. They utilised inheritance funds to purchase the buses through eBay.The necessity arose when they encountered difficulties in securing suitable housing that could accommodate their five children and cater to Antoni’s sister, Hannah, aged 35, who lives with Cerebral Palsy and requires wheelchair accessibility.

Antoni expressed to The Sun his determination to keep his family together, stating, “Cornwall’s council have failed us, and like many, we were close to becoming homeless.”

The buses are equipped with a boiler for hot water and heating, alongside solar panels for power generation. Antoni, the father of five, shared that he can heat their new abode for less than £5, a significant reduction compared to their previous household expenses. In a TikTok video, Antoni provided a virtual tour of the buses, showcasing all seven bedrooms adorned with decor, several bathrooms, and a roomy kitchen and living area. The inspiration for the renovation struck Antoni when he stumbled upon buses listed for sale on eBay, prompted by receiving a no-fault eviction notice from his landlord, prompting him to seek an alternative solution.

Antoni faced a tragic loss when his mother passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm in 2019. Utilising the inheritance received from his mother, Antoni invested in purchasing the buses. Initially, he approached the local council seeking planning permission to construct an accessible house. However, his request was denied, citing issues with the proposed location.

It cost him Rs 37 lakh to make the bus habitable. The good news is that they can now save up to Rs 10 lakh a month because the rent has started to decrease.
