Sending a “thank you” email “Keep in mind that even though the email may be casual, if you’re doing this in a business setting, it should still follow the format of a formal written letter,” Claytor explains. Begin by saying “hello” or addressing the person, since “you don’t just start an email with the content.” After your greeting, include your “thank you” message. If you know the person well, you can include some personal details and well wishes. If you’re less acquainted, keep your message friendly but concise. “Make sure that your spelling and grammar are correct and that you have a proper closing,” Claytor continues. For work, use something like “‘Warm regards,’ ‘Best regards,’ or things like that.”
Sending a “thank you” card “First, you want to start off with nice stationery,” says Claytor. This makes your note seem more genuine and intentional than a piece of computer or notebook paper. Then, address the recipient with a greeting like “Dear” and write your note in or near the center of the card. “Make sure that your handwriting is legible…and you’re very specific about what you’re saying thank you for.” Then, sign off with a polite or warm closing like “Best wishes” or “Thank you again.” Claytor explains that “thank you” cards have a more personal or heartfelt touch than emails most of the time: “I always say, a note or card is like a little present in the mail.
