Celebrities such as Rihanna, Charli XCX, The Weeknd, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah have all recorded music on Osea Island.

A UK island, known among the wealthy and famous, is just an hour away from London and is now open for exclusive rental. Osea Island is loved by celebrities but often overlooked by the public. Despite its proximity to the British capital, many are unaware of this picturesque spot, just 10 miles from Chelmsford in Essex. Nestled on the Blackwater Estuary, the island provides accommodation options and vast open green spaces to explore.

Osea Island offers a variety of accommodations, from cottages to flats and grand manor houses, suitable for all preferences. Situated a mile east of Northey Island, access to the island is limited to a tidal causeway that appears during low tides. This means visitors could find themselves stranded there at certain times of the day, as per reports.

If you plan and book a river taxi, you can easily return to the mainland. The locals love the tranquillity of the island, which serves as an escape from the hustle and bustle of mainland life. With more than 3,000 types of trees and diverse wildlife, Osea Island presents a contrast to the bustling capital.

Animal sounds can be heard on Osea Island, especially on clear nights. The crashing waves against the shore are often the most prominent sound. Interestingly, Osea is home to two well-used recording studios, where early versions of famous pop songs can sometimes be heard.

Celebrities such as Rihanna, Charli XCX, The Weeknd, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah have all recorded music on the island. Alongside, Osea Island is a sought-after venue for hosting large events and has been showcased in several TV shows and movies.

For the past twenty years, music producer Nigel Frieda has owned Osea Island. Since 2012, it has been operated as a party venue and a holiday spot. The island has been used as a filming location for productions such as The Woman in Black and HBO’s The Third Day, featuring Jude Law.

During the First World War, Osea Island functioned as a torpedo base, while in the Second World War, sections of the British Army were stationed there.

The entire island on Coolstays can be rented starting from £35,000 (Rs 28,96,757) per night, but prices might vary. To get to Osea Island from London, take a 50-minute train from Liverpool Street to Chelmsford, and then book a taxi to reach the island.
