This Coffee-Making Video Will Make You Say ‘Oh God Not Again’

For many people, making coffee is a simple task. But for those who are absent-minded, this job becomes a seemingly endless loop of repeating the same steps over and over again. Recently, TV actress Swati Rajput captured this absent-mindedness in a viral Instagram video. In the clip, Rajput shows how being unfocused complicates something as simple as making coffee. The text over this video asks, “How absent minded are you?”

The ‘absent minded’ person in the video, which is portrayed by the actress herself, keeps forgetting where she has put the cup. She also accidentally tosses the coffee into the sink when it is meant to toss a spoon. At the end of this coffee-making endeavour, she realises that she has used multiple cups and wasted ingredients.

Swati Rajput shared this video on March 12 and so far, it has over 29 lakh likes. Her video perfectly captures the point of view of a person who struggles with staying focused and displays low executive function.

In the comments, many people joked that the video appears less about being absent-minded and more about being haunted by a ghost who would misplace the things, thus causing confusion. Expressing this sentiment, an Instagram user said, “This ain’t absent mindedness, you seem to have a ghost in your house.” This single comment boasted over 43,000 likes. Another person wrote, “Would you like a therapist or an exorcist?”

An Instagram user mentioned that “absent-mindedness” is also a sign of being cognitively overwhelmed and wrote, “It also means you have too many things running in your mind.” Someone joked, “Legend says she’s still making a cup of coffee.”

Many people also related to this video. A user noted, “I thought it was just me.” Another person wrote, “Oyeee you’re not alone.”

Swiggy Instamart also commented on the video and wrote, “Acha aap hi thi woh jisne 80 doodh ke packet aur 15 coffee mangwayi thi (So it was you who had ordered 80 packets of milk and 15 of coffee).”

Interestingly, a few people argued that the video’s “forgetfulness” pointed to serious issues like Alzheimer’s disease and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), both of which manifest as symptoms of memory loss and being very distracted. An Instagram user wrote “Alzheimers ho gaya hai (You have developed Alzheimer’s).” Another person wrote, “Bro, this is a problem called ADHD.”
