Locals in Leith and Newhaven, Edinburgh, Scotland were in for a shock when they saw some weird road signs that appeared overnight on a bustling UK street. The natives could not make any sense of these markings. The council in Edinburgh confirmed that these are not the official road signs. This led to them asking what is the meaning behind these traffic signs.
As per The Daily Star, there is a sinister meaning behind these signs. According to Edinburgh Live, the signs mention YLT, or Young Leith Team, a well-known street gang. According to The Scottish Sun, the symbol features a rotated emblem, while another – the correct way up – shows the letters visible when you look closely.
One of the residents from Leith, Julia interacted with Edinburgh Live over these signs. She said, “I live close by and saw these when I walked past earlier this morning and I am very interested in what this means.” She further said, “However, I am a little concerned they have made them look like road signs, motorists might get confused as to where they can and can’t go.” According to Julia, Leith Walk is already as a confusing street as ever with the introduction of the tram and other lanes. Julia hopes that the council will take the signs down if they’re not legitimate as they could confuse natives. Leith Walk is one of the longest streets in Edinburgh.
Another resident named Andrew also expressed his opinion. Andrew said that he has seen a few of these road signs where he lives and a few down in the Newhaven area. According to him, he has no idea about the meaning of these signs. Andrew said that if these signs were the ones introduced by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, he would fail a modern-day theory test. He said that the council is always adding in more ridiculous driving regulations. He said that these regulations have been particularly added in Leith so he wouldn’t be surprised if it was the council who put this sign here, whatever it means.
