Remember The Rescued Baby Elephant From Tamil Nadu? Its New Photo With Mama Is Trending
Forest officials in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) saved a wild elephant calf who was found separated from its mother in Tamil Nadu.

IAS officer Supriya Sahu recently shared a heartwarming photo that captured a rescued elephant calf napping with her mother after being reunited. The drone photo captured the tiny calf tucked under the trunk of her mother as the duo took the afternoon nap. While sharing this photo, Sahu wrote, “When a picture is worth a million words, the rescued baby elephant after uniting with the mother takes an afternoon nap in her mother’s comforting arms before moving again with the big herd. Picture was taken by Forest field staff somewhere in Anamalai Tiger reserve who are keeping a watch to ensure their safety @tnforestdept."

So far, this photo has gathered over 8,000 likes since it was posted on Tuesday evening. Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “All’s well that ends well. After having been separated from each other, must have been a traumatic phase for both the momma and kiddo. But salutes to the TN Team for successfully carrying out a reunion operation. God bless them all."

Earlier on December 30, Sahu shared videos of how the lost calf was reunited with the mother and wrote, “The year ends on a heartwarming note for us at TN Forest Department, as our Foresters united a lost baby elephant with her mother and the herd after rescue in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve at Pollachi. The little calf was found searching for the mother when field teams spotted her. With the help of drones & experienced forest watchers the herd was located and the tiny calf was safely reunited. Teams are still on the ground for monitoring. Kudos to Ramasubramanian, CF, Bhargava Teja FD, Range officer Manikantan and the entire team."

Back in June 2021, a drone video from China that showed a large herd of Asian elephants taking a nap went viral.

The footage was taken when the herd was resting near the Xiyang township. This herd of Asian elephants made global news after the pachyderms left their natural habitat and made an unusual 500-kilometre trip across the province. Experts were perplexed as to why the endangered elephants were moving so far. The Chinese authorities tracked the herd’s movement to prevent any man-elephant conflict. The herd finally returned to the Mengyangzi Nature Reserve in Xishuangbanna, in Yunnan province after 15 months.
