RCB Chants Take Over Delhi Metro After Ellyse Perry's Heroics Propel Team to WPL 2024 Final
Viral video shows fans chanting 'RCB, RCB' and 'Perry, Perry' on Delhi metro as they celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore's spectacular entry into WPL 2024 final.

What a spectacle unfolded on the cricket field – a true display of the sport’s unpredictability, delivering last-minute thrills for one side and heartbreaking shocks for the other! Amidst the cacophony of screams, cheers, and undoubtedly tears of joy, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women clinched their berth in the coveted Final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, scheduled for Sunday, by ousting the reigning champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in a nail-biting Eliminator clash.

As fans erupted into a frenzy of cheers, screams, and undoubtedly tears of joy, social media platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), were ablaze with “Congratulations RCB” trending nationwide. Yet, it was a video from Delhi metro that stole the spotlight, capturing jubilant fans chanting “RCB, RCB,” and “Perry, Perry” in honour of the star batter, Ellyse Perry, whose sublime innings of 66 off 50 played a pivotal role in RCB’s astonishing victory.

Despite posting a modest total of 135 runs in 20 overs, RCB seemed unfazed, boasting a squad with a WPL trophy in their cabinet and a captain in scorching form. However, what unfolded later in the evening was sheer magic for RCB as their bowlers rose to the occasion, denying MI any chance of dominance and fulfilling the long-awaited dreams of their fervent supporters, who can now eagerly anticipate chanting ‘Ee Saala Cup Namde’ in the upcoming final against Delhi Capitals on March 17.

But before the grand finale, the celebrations have already kicked off, with the Delhi metro scene merely setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying culmination.

Turning to the match itself, MI encountered a few stumbling blocks early on. Despite a promising start from openers Yastika Bhatia (19) and Hayley Matthews (15), followed by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s fleeting cameo of 23 off 17 balls, MI faltered midway through their chase. However, they seemed to possess all the time in the world to comfortably seal the deal, despite losing three crucial wickets.

Meanwhile, the RCB faithful in attendance fell momentarily silent, with some disheartened souls beginning to trickle out of the arena. Once again, the spotlight shifted to Harmanpreet Kaur, who appeared poised to replicate her heroics against Gujarat Giants on March 9. However, with 16 needed off 12 balls, her ambitious stroke off Shreyanka Patil’s delivery found Devine near the long-on fence, leading to Kaur’s dismissal for a valiant 33 off 30 balls.

Even then, with Sajeevan Sajana at the crease, MI pinned their hopes on her to turn the tide in their favour. Yet, fate had other plans as Sajana’s audacious swing missed the mark, resulting in her stumping. However, the drama didn’t end there.

In a surprising move, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana entrusted the final over to Asha Sobhana, who had only bowled one over previously. Despite the unconventional decision, Sobhana’s mastery shone through as she outfoxed Pooja Vastrakar with her leg-break, bringing MI’s campaign to an abrupt end for the season.

With victory firmly in their grasp, the aura of RCB permeated everywhere, with fans showering applause on the team’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry, whose stellar return after her best-ever WPL spell left spectators in awe. The atmosphere at Kotla was electric, with even those donning MI jerseys joining the chorus of ‘RCB-RCB’ or ‘Perry-Perry’ for a significant portion of the game.
