Rajasthan Groom Rejects Dowry, Asks Bride To Send Salary To Her Parents After Getting Job
The groom Jay Narayan Jakhar is employed as a Junior Engineer (JE) in the Public Welfare Department and the bride Anita Verma is a postgraduate.

In India, there are several laws to prohibit the practice of dowry including the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961 and IPC 1860. Several NGOs and activists also work to curb the practice of dowry in the nation. However, it is also true that real change comes from oneself rather than the laws written in the Constitution. Testament to this belief, a groom named Jai Narayan Jakhar of Danta Ramgarh in Sikar district in Rajasthan took a bold step in not accepting the dowry from the bride. He also asked his wife to send her hard-earned income to her parents after getting a job. This dowry-free marriage is being appreciated all over the state.

The groom Jay Narayan Jakhar is employed as a Junior Engineer (JE) in the Public Welfare Department and the bride Anita Verma is a postgraduate. The groom said that Anita’s parents had brought her up so well and helped her in becoming a postgraduate. He said that acquiring an education is no less than wealth in today’s time.

Jay Narayan Jakhar, a JE in PWD, got married with just one rupee and a coconut. While talking to Local18, Anita said that the groom’s family was the first to propose a dowry-free marriage. The groom said that his grandfather always raised his voice against social evils and so did his father.

“Inspired by my grandfather and father, I decided to marry without a dowry to end this evil practice prevalent in society. My family members fully supported me in this decision,” said Narayan.

Anita is said to be preparing for a government job after post-graduation. The groom’s family has promised the bride that if she gets a government job then she can give her salary to her parents for a year so that they can reap the rewards of educating and the sacrifice they made to make their daughter capable.

This unique wedding is being praised in Sikar and Jaipur as well as all over Rajasthan. Danta Ramgarh MLA Virendra Singh has also praised this decision of the bride and groom. The MLA himself attended their wedding and called it a good step to eradicate the evil practice of dowry prevalent in society.
