Narayana Murthy Having Ice Cream With Daughter in Bengaluru Reminds Internet of '70 Hour Workweek'
Viral Pic: Narayana Murthy relishing ice cream with daughter Akshata Murty in Bengaluru has internet asking, 'No 70-hour workweek?'

Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys and staunch ‘advocate’ of the 70-hour workweek, was recently captured enjoying a sweet treat with his daughter, Akshata Murty, Britain’s esteemed first lady, at a popular ice cream parlour in Bengaluru. Their candid moment at the iconic Corner House in Jayanagar quickly became the talk of social media, eliciting both amusement and curiosity. Why, you ask?

In the snapshot, Akshata, wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, sat casually beside her father, both savouring their ice cream cups as they posed for the camera. The internet couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the sight of this father-daughter duo unwinding on a Monday evening, seemingly defying the very 70-hour workweek principle advocated by Mr. Murthy. Well, bringing ‘70 hours’ into conversations has become somewhat of a tradition for the online community, particularly among Desis, to turn such instances into witty memes whenever the topic of family or work-life balance arises.

“It’s only 8.30 pm on a monday shouldn’t they both hard at work getting their 70 hours in for the week,” quipped one user on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, upon stumbling upon the viral photo.

Another humorously remarked, “They ask you to work 70 hours a week, so that they can belt a coconut scoop at 7pm on a Monday.” Joining the jest, a third joked, “1 hour wasted,” while a fourth cynically pondered, “Is he on vacation ? What happen to 70 hrs work week schedule ??”

Meanwhile, the first lady was first spotted in India last week, alongside her esteemed parents, Narayana Murthy, and Sudha Murthy, to attend the launch event of author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s latest book titled “An Uncommon Love: The Early Life of Sudha and Narayana Murthy.”

The event, held at St Joseph’s College of Commerce in Bengaluru, provided a nostalgic platform for the Infosys founder to reminisce about his initial encounters with Mrs. Murty during the early 1970s. Sudha Murty, known for her avid love of literature, was also captivated by the extensive book collection of Mr. Murthy’s roommate, igniting the spark that would eventually lead to their enduring connection.
