A passenger on the Mumbai Metro was left surprised by its washroom policy. The story posted by the commuter on the Reddit platform demonstrates an unusual and, to some extent, hilarious way of accessing the toilet amenities at metro stations.
While travelling on the Mumbai Metro, the man was caught off guard when he was handed a slip to use the washroom. Dubbed a “toilet pass,” the slip required him to fill in his name, phone number and ticket token number just to gain access to the toilet facilities. The caption accompanying his post humorously captured his reaction. It read, “Wanted to pee, had to obtain a Toilet Pass for the toilet on the Ambani Metro. TOILET PASS.”

The post quickly gained traction on Reddit, drawing a mix of laughter and disbelief from users. Many found the humour in the situation, noting how amusing it is to have such a systematic approach to restroom access.
A user commented, “If you gotta pee, you gotta pay the fee.”
Another jokingly said, “Obviously they need a name and phone number to connect to your urine and stool sample.”
A user said, “Idk man maybe your are special but i have used the metro washroom on ghatkopar, I wasn’t asked to do such antics.”
Some commenters suggested that implementing such a system could help manage the usage of public amenities effectively. However, many others questioned the necessity of providing personal information, like phone numbers, just to gain access to restrooms.
A user commented, “Glad they didn’t ask for Aadhar and biometrics. Maybe in the future.”
Another user said, “Watch out, your social credit rating on the Jio app will be reduced, Mods are watching.”
The current policy implemented by Mumbai Metro regarding restroom facilities restricts access to only those within the paid area of the stations. As a result, passengers who are outside this area, including non-travelling clients, cannot access the washrooms directly. To address this, the metro has introduced a system known as the “toilet pass,” allowing individuals who need to use the restroom but are not actively commuting to gain access.
