At present, the most significant dilemma that corporate employees are battling is choosing between WFH and WFO. While work-from-home policies come with their own conveniences and comforts, companies have started calling back employees to the offices with better pay. This confusion has led to a full-scale discussion on social media, thanks to a Mumbai-based MBB consultant who recently brought up the complexities of choosing between a higher salary and relocation. Taking to the Grapevine platform, the user, who goes by the name Maverick2298, asked for advice from social media users.
He shared his two job options, which include working from home and staying with his family, and another that pays a higher salary but requires him to move to Bengaluru. An IIT-IIM MBB consultant, he wrote, “Considering the bleak situation of the consulting industry, I looked out for opportunities and got a couple of offers – needed help in evaluating them.”
According to his post, while the first offer is at an Indian startup in Bengaluru that pays him Rs 40–43 LPA, the second is at a foreign startup with a fully WFH model. The job offers Rs 35–27 LPA + equity. Looking for some “external perspective,” he asked users to share their thoughts, thus sparking a series of diverse reactions.
A user suggested, “WFH for sure. You’ll spend that extra hike on living expenses, plus no point leaving family,” while another commented, “Bangalore is expensive and leaving away from family and that too not on a high salary should stick too, and if it’s a promising foreign startup, even a little bit of an of an increase in the dollar would result in higher pay .”
A user strongly urged the consultant to avoid relocating to Bengaluru, explaining the challenges. “Bro, believe me, I’ve been living here in Bangalore for 2 years, and if I get a WFH offer from any company, even on the same scale, I’ll choose it without thinking for a second. Just go with WFH, you will be fed up with Bangalore, as the expenses here are really exhausting. At least choose mental peace by living with your family, because here you exhaust yourself mentally as well as financially,” the comment read.
Another highlighted the traffic woes of the city and wrote, “As much as I love Bangalore, if you have WFH, take it. Traffic here is not worth going to office space.”
