IIT Student Rejects YouTuber’s Video Editing Job After Signing Offer Letter: 'It's Not About Money'
YouTuber had offered the role to an IIT Madras student, who decided to back out, even after signing the offer letter.

Ishan Sharma, a popular YouTuber and entrepreneur, recently faced an unexpected situation. Instead of a company withdrawing an offer, the candidate he chose for a video editing position changed his mind at the last moment. The Bengaluru-based content creator had offered the role to an IIT Madras student, who even signed the offer letter. However, just before starting, the student decided to back out, as he wanted to focus on completing his studies for a few more years.

Instead of simply disappearing, he reached out to Ishan to explain his decision. He sincerely apologised for the trouble and confirmed that this would be his final choice. Ishan shared this experience on X and mentioned that similar things have happened with him before. Ishan wrote, “Tried hiring a video editor. He signed the offer letter. And then sends me this email. Has happened with me multiple times.”

Meanwhile, the YouTuber attached a screenshot of the IIT students’ mail, where he wrote, “I’ve given a lot of thought to the offer and I understand that I signed it, and we spoke this morning too. Even so, after thinking through the situation, I’ve come to the conclusion that I won’t be able to join you guys. The main reason is that I feel leaving IIT campus at this stage in my life isn’t the right choice for me. I want to at least complete 1 or 2 more years here. This is my final decision and it won’t change. It’s not about money or anything else, your offer was excellent, and I’m truly grateful that you considered me for such a role. I’m very sorry for any time wasted for you and your team.”

Reacting to the post, a user suggested, “Go for professionals, pay them a good salary, they will stick. These college kids change their mood every hour.”

Another shared, “Brother first of all stop obsessing over IIT, in my experience IITians are really talented and hence unstable because they aim for FAANG or bigger offers in general. Even if they join they will quickly switch. Personally I don’t find anything wrong here. It’s his wish.”

“Leaving IIT for an individual content creator (who is still not a brand) is not a good decision. He did the right thing,” a comment read.

Another wrote, “You honestly pay very less Ishan. Ask me how I know this? Some of the editors from your team were my friends, they quit you to join my team because of the money they were getting.”

An individual shared, “Honestly, be glad at least they didn’t ghost you after taking salary for the month. The email seems thoughtful enough. Otherwise, with the current opportunistic attitude that people have, it’s hard for early stage startups to retain good talent.”

One more speculated, “I’ve heard from a few guys that you pay quite low to editors considering your brand value. Could that be the reason?”

Since the post was shared on X, it has garnered over 28,000 views. Reportedly, the student is pursuing BSc in Computer Science from IIT Madras.
