‘I Didn’t Expect It. I Wasn’t Ready’: Man’s Romantic Proposal In Rome Goes Wrong

Rome is one of the most romantic locations in the world. Every year hundreds of couples arrange their marriage proposals in the historic city. However, not all of these proposals result in a ‘yes’. Now one such failed marriage proposal is going viral. The video shows a young couple dancing on the streets of Via Condotti as a busker serenades them. In the middle of the dance, the man gets down on his knee and proposes to his partner with a ring. However, instead of saying an enthusiastic ‘yes’, the lady hints her boyfriend to get up even as a small crowd gathers around them.

According to the New York Post, the woman says in Italian, “I didn’t expect it. I wasn’t ready. But is this why we came to Rome?" To this, the man asks again, “But is it yes or no?" After some hesitation, the woman says no before the man gets up dejected. This clip was first posted on TikTok on Christmas Eve by TikTok user herclueless. So far, it has been viewed over 13 million times. Soon it began circulating across social media.

The New York Post quoted a TikTok user who commented on the clip, “Public proposals are there just to put pressure on the woman to say yes." Another person remarked, “I admire her honesty and courage to say no when the whole public is pressuring her to say yes! This is blackmail and she didn’t fall for it."

This is not the only unusual marriage proposal that has created a buzz online. In March this year, Ricardo Juarez, a resident of Riverside in US California, decided to propose to his girlfriend by invading the pitch of a baseball game at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, USA.

He hoped that the jumbotron would catch his grand gesture. Instead, just as Ricardo got onto the pitch and went on his knee, the stadium security tackled him immediately and escorted him away from the ground. His girlfriend stood surprised in the stands. While some people were amused by him and cheered for Ricardo, many booed him for compromising security.

The Orange County Register reported that Ricardo was banned for one year from attending any events at the Dodgers Stadium along with a police citation. Stephani accepted the proposal after Juarez was released.
