Hyderabad Techie in Shock Over US Visa Interview Delay, Gets '470 Days' Wait Time
A techie from Hyderabad, India, took to social media to express his shock and frustration over getting a wait time of over a year for a US visa Interview.

A techie from Hyderabad was given a 470-day wait for a US visa interview slot while trying to book one for a friend – almost 1.2 years! Yes, you read that right! Amit Bhawani expressed shock at the wait time and even claimed that some people he knows managed to secure earlier slots through agents.

Bhawani who is clearly frustrated after failing to find a slot with a wait time under a year, asserted, “Also, others I know went ahead with agents who were able to get them earlier slots. How is that possible?”

“Everything can be rigged,” he declared.

In an update, shared that he successfully booked a US visa interview slot and the date falls in the August itself. He emphasised that he didn’t resort to using “Chrome extensions, scripts, bots or took help of an agent” to secure the appointment. He didn’t give up trying and at the end it was all worth it. Bhawani humourously added, “…I might need a new mouse after all that clicking.”

In the comments section of the post, the techie revealed that he began his booking attempt around 11 pm and managed to find two slots for the visa interview in Mumbai and Delhi.

In response to an X user’s query on any hacks if he “used” to get the slots, Bhawani revealed that he kept on “refreshing” the page, adding, “I didn’t check Kolkata / Chennai as I was not interested in going there for interviews, limiting the search to Hyderabad, Delhi, and Mumbai while continuously not giving up.”

Here’s how the Internet reacted to his posts:

“Agents are charging 30k for early appointments,” expressed an individual.

Another added, “I applied for B1B2 in March 2022 and got date of Sep 2024. You’re still lucky.”

“One of my office colleague recently paid 50k per person for US visa – appointment in 1.5 months. Such are the levels of rigging,” shared a third.

A fourth posted, “My friend and his family applied for a US visa in 2022 as her sister was getting graduated and this year they got the call for an interview. Didi graduated 2 years back and she is currently working in Australia.”

“I booked for myself and got next day slot. Though I rescheduled it to one month later as it was suitable. You have to keep watch on slots, I think agents do the same too,” said yet another Internet user.

A sixth chimed in, “There’s nothing you can do about it, all you have to do is to keep an eye on them. They open up suddenly (cancelled slots), and some fresh slots also. Just get the timing right and have the data handy.”
