Hyderabad Dental Hospital Under Fire Again Following Viral Post About Woman's 'Chopped' Lip

A day after the news of Laxmi Narayana Vinjam, a man from Hyderabad, losing his life due to an anaesthesia overdose during a lip-enhancement surgery at the FMS International Dental Clinic in Jubilee Hills, another distressing incident involving the same hospital has emerged. This time, it revolves around a woman whose lip was accidentally severed due to what is being termed as ‘negligence’. Sowmya Sangam, a journalist associated with Telangana Today, took to ‘X’ to share the incident that occurred about a year ago with her friend.

“At FMS Hospital in Jubilee Hills, where a patient passed away during dental procedure due to anesthesia overdose, one of my friends too had a horrific dental treatment experience there earlier. The dentist accidentally chopped off her lip, leaving a deep depression in her mouth,” she began. Alongside was the picture showing how one side of her lower lip was missing, which she claimed was due to the dentist’s negligence.

Sangam further disclosed that her friend is still grappling with the aftermath of the medical accident, more than a year after it happened. She cannot stretch her lip fully, cannot laugh or smile widely, and is on steroids to regain flexibility. The patient, who remains unnamed, had visited the hospital for a routine tooth extraction. Her mother left a scathing review of the hospital on Google, shedding more light on the incident.

In a review link shared by Sangam herself in the comments, it read, “Doctors here mutilated my daughter, harassed and threatened her. During her tooth extraction the “senior” dentist (also maxillofacial surgeon) with his assistant burnt off her mouth with their dental instruments..” The dentists allegedly assured the woman that her lip would heal within a few months, which extended into over a year. Upon seeking subsequent treatment, the hospital authority purportedly belittled her pain and trauma, ridiculing both her and her father.

As per the patient’s mother, the individual in charge of the hospital purportedly made fun of her appearance, among other offences. He allegedly “threatened to throw them out if they didn’t leave. Told her she looks good that way and laughed at her. Harassed her with their vulgar comments.”

“Nobody should go [through] this pain. They ruined my daughter’s life. She completely lost flexibility on right half of her mouth now. They are liars and frauds,” the review concluded.

In response to the viral ‘X’ post, numerous comments flooded in, expressing solidarity and urging police intervention. “This is utter negligence from this hospital and the dentists working there. Health Minister himself has to intervene in this matter and investigate it before many more suffer,” remarked one user. Another commented, “Very sad. I have no words to console or make her feel better. Medical negligence has become a way of life with the drudgery and struggles one faces with legalities and health departments.”

Even the official handle of Hyderabad Police replied to one of the tagged comments, urging the submission of a written complaint at the local police station.
