News of various online scams go viral on the internet every day. Recently, a similar incident took place in Australia. A man received a message on his phone that felt like an attempt made to hack his bank account. All he was required to do was press ‘OK’ so that the bank could send him a new card. The man was intelligent. He immediately called the bank for reconfirmation. In response from the bank, it was said that this news is true. Then, after the reassurance, he clicked OK; but immediately, Rs 16 lakh was debited from his account. Now, the bank is refusing to accept their involvement in it, and says that the investigation will take 45 days to complete.

According to the report in the Daily Mail, this person, a resident of Melbourne, had an account with Ubank. The man received a call after he pressed ‘Ok’ on the text. The person who called addressed himself as a bank employee and asked for some more details. He also asked him for the last four numbers on his card and what transactions he had done in the last few days. After hearing this, the person felt that perhaps he might be an actual bank employee. He then entered the PIN, confirming his identity.

Later, it was revealed that this PIN was his security code, which fell into the hands of the scammer. The scammers kept talking to the person for half an hour. He kept telling him that his account was being investigated. In the meantime, Rs 16 lakh was debited from the person’s account.

In a media interaction, the man’s sister shared that when his brother was talking on the phone for half an hour, within that time Rs 16 lakh was gone. The transaction was done twice. After this, when he called the bank, the bank denied any mistake and told him that the investigation would take 45 days.
