26-year-old Woman Discovers Father Not Her Biological Parent After DNA Test

A woman was shocked upon discovering that her biological father is not the man she has known as her dad for 26 years, after undergoing a DNA test. She shared how her mother had been constructing a family tree using DNA tests and encouraged her to take one to gather more information.

However, upon receiving her test results, she was shocked to find out that the man she had been calling her father all her life had no biological relation to her. She explained on Reddit, “My mother has been constructing our family tree and had conducted DNA tests for my grandparents on her side and one for my father.”

Intrigued by her father’s ethnic results, she decided to take a DNA test to discover her own. Encouraged by her mother, she eagerly awaited the results while enjoying the process of building her family tree. However, upon receiving the results two days ago, she was shocked to find that none of her DNA matches were from her father’s side. Instead of seeing her father’s name, she was presented with the name of an unfamiliar individual with whom she shared 50 per cent DNA. This realisation left her feeling as though she had made a mistake by taking the test.

She further elaborated, stating that she discovered some other individuals whom she hadn’t heard of before, with whom she shared up to 25 per cent of her DNA. Additionally, around 25 per cent of her DNA matches were with people she knew, including her grandparents. Upon researching her father’s ethnic heritage, she found that it included 20 per cent Balkan ancestry, which did not appear in her results at all.

Feeling perplexed by the situation and sensing that her mother was unaware of these discrepancies, she received a message from someone offering to share family trees. This only added to her confusion, leaving her unsure of how to proceed. Despite her parents having a seemingly solid narrative about her conception, she found herself unable to shake off the nagging doubts. Eventually, she gathered the courage to confront her mother about the situation, grappling with the uncertainty of whether she was truly ready to uncover the truth.

She revealed that her mother seemed to enjoy the attention, while her father reacted strongly upon realising that something “sketchy” was going on. This led to the end of the affair, with her mother cutting off contact with the other person involved. Although she considered telling her father about it, she ultimately decided against it. After discussing the situation with her boyfriend, who shared his perspective that her father, having been aware of the affair, might not want to know this kind of information, she began to reconsider her approach.
