Threads Is Also Testing This Popular Instagram And Snapchat Feature: All Details
Meta is integrating more features across its products but we are not sure how the latest test will help with Threads post.

Meta-owned Threads has 175 million users and it is reportedly testing a new feature. As per a report by TechCrunch, these ephemeral posts will be visible to users for up to 24 hours. Moreover, once the timer runs out, the replies made under the post will disappear, similar to Instagram Stories, which is also run by Meta.

The development came after Threads told the publication that temporary posts were being built as an internal prototype in June. The feature would come in handy for users who have a habit of deleting their feed frequently, or if the posts have a shortlived context.

If Threads implements the 24-hour post feature, it will be a first among its social network rivals such as X, Bluesky and Mastodon. Details regarding when the Meta-owned social media platform might roll out the feature to a wider user base remain under wraps. It is also unclear whether users can add a specific time under 24 hours to automatically delete the post.

Sharing about the same, developer and tipster Alessandro Paluzzi published an ephemeral post on Threads. The screenshot added in the report shows a 24-hour expiration timer ticking backwards to zero for posts. When users tap on the reply button, they can see the time remaining, after which the post will be deleted.

The post also contained a banner on top of the post that said, “Your posts and all the replies will be automatically deleted in 24 hours and removed from your profile.”

While the banner did not specify anything about quoted replies, the media portal claimed that quoted posts also disappear once the timer for the original post runs out.

Messina also noted that disappearing posts won’t be shared with the fediverse network. This means if a user shifts to Mastodon with their account, the temporary posts will not be added, as Threads won’t be able to delete those posts from other ActivityPub-powered servers. It is to be noted that Threads started allowing users to share their posts with the fediverse in June.
