The new Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 Plus is arguably the best and the most-talked about feature in smartphones now. The iPhone 7 Plus' Portrait mode creates a bokeh-like depth-of-field effect to keep your subjects sharp while creating a beautifully blurred background — something that has been the forte of DSLR cameras for long.
According to Flickr, iPhone models accounting for 8 of the top 10 camera types used on the site and are more popular than DSLR cameras. and point and shoot cameras alike. Also, 47 per cent of Flickr users have used an Apple device to upload images to the community this year. Flickr also added that 8 of the top 10 cameras were on iPhones devices, with the 6, 5s, and 6s in the top three slots.

• To use the new Portrait mode on your iPhone, launch the camera and select Portrait.
• Portrait mode guides you in real-time with a live preview of the depth effect, including how to best distance the camera from the subject.
• The further your subject is from your background, the more pronounced the blur effect will be.
• Shoot against a non-solid background to get the most out of the depth effect.
• Pay attention to the guide in Portrait mode that tells you if you need more light in the shot.
• If shooting more than one person, make sure to keep in the same plane so the subjects stay sharp.
• Try to have little ones stand still when taking your photo.
• Set a timer for 3s or 10s so the photographer can get into the shot, or ask a friend/neighbour to help out
